Wow, I was looking back and it's hard to believe but it's been August since I put a post up. I've been very busy, and have thought about doing it, but get side tracked with something else. There's a lot to catch up so where to start.
The Phillies have won the world series, therefore ending the 25 year drought of a Philadelphia sports team. It was a great feeling for Phillies fans and for the city of Philadelphia. The parade was a mad house from what I saw on t.v. and Utley let the f bomb fly on t.v. but hey he was excited, after winning the world series oh well. The Phillies signed Jamie Moyer to a two year contract, and they also signed Raul Ibanez meaning that Pat "The Bat" Burrell's days are numbered and will sign a free agent contract with another team. The Phillies moved former Gilbertsville resident Mike Ondo to a professional scout position. Congrats Mike and best wishes on your new career.
Donovan McNabb and the Eagles are 8-5-1 with two games left. The will face the Washington Redskins who are in a downfall, and the Dallas Cowboys in Philly the last week of the season. With all the emtions and outbursts of Terrell Owens, it will be interesting to see how he will be welcomed when he comes to the city of Brotherly Love. The Eagles tied against a bad Cincinnatti Bengals team, in which McNabb didn't know the rules of overtime. If you ask me, that was up to Andy Reid to tell him, but it's McNabb's job to know the rules too. He was benched in the game against the Ravens, but Kevin Kolb didn't look much better. If he's the future of the Eagles, we could have some long and lean years ahead of us. McNabb came back after his benching and has played lights out and the team has won three games in a row.
The Boyertown football team capped of a victory of their back yard rivals Upper Perk Indians to finish the season 5-7. It was a very physical game, and Upper Perk tried to use some cheap tatics but they didn't work. The Bears got three field goals from sophomore kicker Aarron Sassaman, to secure a 16-14 victory. In the Thanksgiving Day game, David Crognale became the first person in Berks County and in the PAC-10 to throw for 1,000 yards and run for 1,000 yards.
Coach Scisly has done a great job, and really has the team headed in the right directions. The team loses quarterback David Crognale, Eric Repko, Ian Repko and Ty Showers, but the team has a talented group of players returning including Chase Stewart, Ryan Schwager, Logan Herb, Wilmer Barndt, Jared Giles and Kyle Fultz. The team has already started their off-season weight training, to prepare for next year, and it will be interesting to see how they do.
The Sixers have a record of 9-14 when they fired Mo Cheeks as their head coach, and brought in a coach who doesn't have any head coaching experience. They won their first game under their new coach, but I don't think it was Mo's fault for the Sixers poor start. To many times the coaches get blamed when the players don't preform up to their standards, but why not hold the players accountable for once.
The Philadelphia Flyers got off to a slow start, but have been playing very well as of late. The team is in second place in the Atlantic division. John Stevens has the team playing well, and there's still a long way to go in the season.
Finally I would like to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year and best wishes for 2009.

end of summer and fall sports beginning
Sorry it's been so long since I typed in a blog, but I've been very busy and unable to get something in. It's hard to believe that it's the middle of August, and that means that summer is almost over, and the start of another school year is upon us.
When it's the middle of August, that can also mean one other thing, and that fall sports season is here. The fall sports teams, have started practicing on Monday, and I'm looking forward to the start of another football season. Coach Scisley and his staff have been working very hard with the football players during the off-season, and now it's time to see if that hard work has paid off. I feel that the football team will be improved this season, and the Bears will be a 500 team and hopefully better.
Scott Didyoung and Billy Goddard, the soccer coaches at Boyertown (Didyoung boys coach Goddard girls coach) have had the team working hard during the off-season, and Goddard will have a young team, and lost two key players in the Gimber twins, but knowing Coach Goddard, he's looking to continue their climb to the top of the PAC-10 and win wrestle the league title away from the Lady Wildcats. Coach Didyoung had a young team last year, and has several key players returning, which should make them improved.
The Phillies are on a West Coast swing, and have lost 3 straight to the Dodgers. Jimmy Rollins was running his mouth off about the Philadelphia fans. It looks like Rollins knows how to make friends in Philadelphia and will hear about it when the team returns from their trip. HEY JROL SHUT UP AND PLAY BALL YOU BIG OVERPAID BABY.
I've been fascinated by the Olympics and watching all the different sports. Michael Phelps has proven that he is far and away in a league by himself. He's won 5 gold metals so far, and a chance to win 3 more gold metals. Is Phelps the greatest Olympians of all time, I would say yes, and I don't think I'll ever see that again in my life. He's in his early 20's and has a chance to increase his gold metals total in four years. Phelps is the Tiger Woods of golf, the Michael Jordan of basketball and the Wyane Gretsky of hockey.
The Legion Bears have breezed through the county, state regional and state tournament. The Bears won their unprecedented 21st state title last Saturday, and are playing the Maryland state champion Gaithersburg who has a record of 39-3 coming into the Mid-Atlantic tournament in Colonial Heights, Virgina. Congrats to the BEARS on winning another state title, and good luck in Mid-Atlantic. As I'm typing this blog, the Bears are down 4-1 in the top of the second inning. LET'S GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as Harry Kalas would say I'm OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HHERRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGO BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =0)

Haddad's corner
Well, it's been a while since I posted a blog so I thought I better get my tail in gear and get one up.
Summer is offically here and things are starting to heat up in the Berks County Legion race. Boyertown continues to romp through the Berks league beating Fleetwood, Hamburg, Greg Post and Oley by a combined score of 58-4. Thank goodnes for the mini tournament where they faced some good teams like Chaney, Maryland, Southern Area and Yardley Western. The Bears came from behind to beat Chaney and Yardley and the young players got a chance to play and gain legion experience. The Bears have one loss on the season, and face their arch rivals West-Lawn on "Got 20" at the stadium.
They beat Exeter 8-1 last night and there was some bafoonery during the game. The home plate umpire called Boyertown batter out, when he fouled the ball off to the backstop. He asked for help from the field umpire and he missed it as well. I still can't understand how two umpires missed the call and didn't see or hear the ball hit the ball and be foulded back. I think they need to see an eye doctor to get their eyes check. I might even know a good eye doctor for them. Maybe they should bring their seeing eyes dogs with them to help them out.
The N.B.A. draft is on Thursday night, and our Philadelphia 76ers hold the 16th pick. I feel that the sixers could use a big man, and some help at point guard. One of the mock drafts that I saw had the sixers taking the center from University of Florida, but you never know whatwill happen. They are guessing just like the mock drafts in football. Maybe they will move up to get a better pick, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that Sixers fans.
Will the real Philadelphia Phillies please stand up?? The looked so good up until they started the inter-league play. They have lost two straight series to the defeding champion Boston Redsoxs and to the L.A. Angels of Anaheim. They start a series in Oakland and let's hope they get back on track. There's talk of them making a trade to get a starting pitching which hasn't done very well as of late, and their offense is non-exsistent. I'm not sure if I would trade Shane Victorino and a prospects for what's out on the market right now.
C.C.Sabathia of the Clevland Indians is a free agent at the end of the season and there's no guarentees that the Phillies front office will resign him, so why give up Victorino when we would have Sabathia for three to four months. Jason Worth is an ok player, but the offense would defenitly be lacking by trading Victorino. Hey maybe we should make a trade with our buddy Ed Wade in Houston he's known for making stupid trades.
I gotta finish mowing grass so I'm OOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA hHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sports musings
Well, here we are the middle of May, and that means the high school baseball playoffs are starting. Boyertown was the 1 seed in the south with only 1 loss all year. They get a bye in the first round. Their second game will be Wednesday against either C.B. East or Spring-Ford. Boyertown was 2-0 against the Rams, but they will be looking to avange those losses and send Boyertown packing from the playoffs. Their possible third round oppenunt is Owen J. Roberts who the Bears defeated by total of 2 runs. Good luck BEARS and bring home another state title.
With it being in Mid May, that also means that the American Legion season is about the start. They start out with a home/away series with Doylestown this coming weekend, and Rick Moatz and his crew are searching for their 21st state title. They lost some players due to graduation, but there are still a good number of players back who have the legion experinece to help propel them to another state title. Boyertown will be hosting the American Legion state tournament in August.
The Lady Bears softball team after a slow start turned things around and received the 19 seed and they face the number 14 seed Neshaminy Monday afternoon. If they win that game, they would face the third seed and PAC-10 champion Owen J. Roberts. Sue Benfield and her coaching staff, did a great job, turning the season around and got them playing well and were able to turn things around after a rough start. Good luck the Lady Bears.
The Sixers lost to the Detriot Pistons, in the first round of the N.B.A. playoffs, but I feel that they still had a great season, and shouldn't hang their heads, but look to build on their success next season. I think that they need to resign the two Andres Andre Miller and Andre Iguodala. They still need help on the inside if they want to continue to be a contender in the eastern conference.
The Flyers some how some way, made it to the Eastern Conference Finals in the N.H.L. playoffs and are facing their cross state rival Pittsburg Pengiuns. I think they surprised everybody making it this far, and I think most people felt that they would have lost in the first round second at the most. They did a big turnaround from last years' dreadful season, and having nothing to be ashamed of losing in the conference finals.
I think that's all for now That's all for now enjoy the nice weather, and as Harry Kalas would say I'm OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HHERRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGO BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =0)

N.B.A. and N.H.L. playoffs are here, Phillies and high school sports
It's been a while since I put a blog up so I thought I better get my butt in gear. I've been very busy with my writing for the paper so that's one of the reason's why I haven't gotten the chance to get a new blog up. Sorry about that, I'll try to do better and get at least one up a week.
The playoffs are here, and both the Sixers and Flyers made the playoffs. The Flyers won a very exciting seven game series over the Washington Captials, and move on to face the Montreal Candians in the second round. They played well, but have a very tough challenge in front of them, and if the Flyers want to make it to the next round. I feel that the Flyers need to take it to a higher level and get the early lead by winning both games on the Candians home ice. That will be a tough challenge, and I'm not sure if they are up for that. Let's hope, they've played very up and down at times during the regular season but let's hope that overtime win will propel them to another series victory.
Now, the Sixers on the other hand, are the seven seed facing the second seed Detriot Pistons which will not be an easy task. With the Pistons having RIP Hamilton from Coatesville, and Chancy Billups and Rasheed Wallace wining this series could be very difficult. It wasn't that long ago that the Pistons won the N.B.A. title and the leadership is there to propel them to the next round, but the Sixers are a young and up and coming team team. Mo Cheeks is a very good coach and has done a very good job coaching this group, and I was surprised that they won game 1 on the road at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Sunday. I thought the Sixers might win one game and that coming at home. They lost by quite a bit tonight, but have a home game Friday night at the Center and then again on Sunday, let's hope that they can win both games, but I would be satisfied with a split.
The high school spring sports season is at it's half way point, and Boyertown baseball continues to roll through the PAC-10. They were undefeated headed into the game against Upper Perk this afternoon and have tough double header game Friday night against a young upstart Pottstown Trojans team. The Bears also have a non-league game Saturday afternoon at Owls Field against Wilson-West Lawn who is coached by Boyertown grad Jeff Evans.
Next week will be the big test for the Bears facing Owen J. Roberts, Monday night at Bear Stadium and travelling to Ram Stadium on Wednesday night.
OJR is two games out of first place, and if they want to stay in the hunt for the PAC-10 title, they desperately need a win. The Bears for some reason do not play well at Ram Stadium, and haven't won there since joining the PAC-10. The Bears defeated the Rams a few weeks ago, thanks in part to some great pitching and key hitting from the Bears. I think this will be the year that they break the curse at Ram Stadium and maintain their two game lead in the PAC-10.
The Phillies are a game over .500, and swept a two game series against the Rockies who knocked them out of the playoffs last year as they faced the Brewers tonight at Miller Park. Chase Utley has been playing very well and has seven home runs including one tonight against the Brewers. So far, Utley is having a M.V.P season, and let's hope he can continue. He's picking up the slack for Ryan Howard who's batting .190 so far this year with four home runs. Let's hope as the weather warms up, so does Howard's bat. He's getting paid a lot of money, but not living up to the money he's making.
Pat "The Bat" Burrell who is more up and down than a roller coaster is having a very good season so far, and surprising everyone including me. So far in the young season, he's batting .357 with seven home runs, 22 R.B.I. an on base percentage of .471 and a slugging percentage of .729. Let's hope he can keep it up, and pick up the slack for Mr. Howard.
Well, the Phillies are back to a .500 record after losing game one of a two game set to the Brew Crew 5-4. They had a runner 90 feet away from tying the game, but couldn't get him home. They will now head to Pittsburgh to face the Pirates before headed back to CBP to welcome the Padres, and the lowly San Fransico Giants. The Padres and Giants have a combined record of 17-25 and if they can't win those two series they are in trouble.
That's all for now enjoy the nice weather, and as Harry Kalas would say I'm OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HHERRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Welcome
Hello, and my welcome to Haddad's Corner. My name is Phil Haddad a free lance reporter for a local newspaper company, and I also do some free lance writing for WZARTV an internet tv news station. Some of my blogs will be funny, and after a while, you'll get to know my sense of humor. Some of my blogs may be serious, and the topics will be sports related but could be a bit touchy in topics. I will try to get something up once a week but if I have the time I will try to get more than that up.
We are in the month of March and that means a couple of things. Spring is right around the corner, and yes baseball is FINALLY HERE. The Boyertown High School team will start with their first league game next week against Lansdale Catholic. Boyertown is looking to win their fifth straight PAC-10 title a feat that has never been accomplished since the PAC-10's inception in the mid 1980s. Todd Moyer is a very good coach, who gets the most out of his players. Boyertown may not have superstars, BUT they believe in the system and do what the coaches tell them. That is the main reason why Boyertown has such a strong baseball program year in and year out.
The Phillies are looking to defend their National League East but the other teams in their division will be looking to knock them off of the top of the mountain. They are also looking to return to the N.L.C.S. but I still think they have some holes in their pitching rotation, and general manager Pat Gillick did nothing to fix the problem. So far this spring Adam Eaton has done NOTHING to prove that he deserves to be in the starting rotation. He's been shelled his last couple of starts during spring training, and they need to do something before the start of the regular season.
My other problem with the Phillies is Uncle Charlie, Charlie Befuddled AKA Charlie Mannaul. The guy can't speak to the media to save his life, and has cost them games due to poor coaching decision. They got as far as they did, despite having Charlie Mannaul coach them not because of them. Every year they get off to a slow start, which most years costs them the playoffs. Last year they played well late in the year, and the Mets blew their lead and gave it away. Gee, it couldn't have happened to a nicer team.
The other thing it means is "March Madness" the most wonderful time of the year if you are a college basketball fan. The field of 64 is set and over the next couple of weeks, there will be the upsets but that's the beauty of March Madness. Seeing a 12 seed beating a 5 seed, or seeing the 13 seed beating the 4 seed or even seeing the 11, 12 or 13 seed like George Mason a few years ago make the Cinderella run to the elite 8. Without question, I will be glued to my television like most college basketball fans watching all the PTPERs the DIAPER Dandys BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's all for now

The field of 64 is set and over the next couple of weeks, there will be the upsets but that's the beauty of March Madness. Seeing a 12 seed beating a 5 seed, or seeing the 13 seed beating the 4 seed or even seeing the 11, 12 or 13 seed like George Mason a few years ago make the Cinderella run to the elite 8. Without question, I will be glued to my television like most college basketball fans watching all the PTPERs the DIAPER Dandys BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's all for now
